Sosta House

Willamette Valley, Oregon

Sosta House is a bed & breakfast owned and operated by brother-sister duo Nico and Mia Ponzi Hamacher who as kids, would climb the fig tree looking for fruit and hide under the basement stairs during hide and seek. The house is precious to generations of their family– having been the childhood home of their mother and the place where their grandparents, Dick and Nancy Ponzi, settled and established one of the first wineries in the Willamette Valley.

The fig tree, along with the historic vineyards planted in 1969, are celebrated as the logo and visual green thread of the B & B. The elegant yet modern graphic design nods to the original Ponzi Winery branding, salted with an Italian hand and paired with motifs of natural paper, stamped edges, hand etched signage and playful illustrations. Beyond the identity, matchbooks, custom blankets, poster and beyond embark on the continuing story of the project’s softness, color and resolute spirit. The website was designed and developed as the house’s storytelling companion, showcasing a collection of current and historical photographs, upcoming events and faqs on the residency program founded by Mia Ponzi and Zab Shavrick.

Since opening in the summer of 2023, Sosta House’s three room operation sitting alongside its barrel sauna, farm to table food program, summer concert series, and array of friendly farm cats has graced the cover of Portland Monthly and been written up by Vogue, Forbes and Elle Japan. In 2024, just steps from the front door, Sosta House welcomed the opening of its neighbor: the original Ponzi Winery and tasting room re-imaged as Winery Lane Collective.
